The water pump moves coolant through the block, the head, and the radiator. When the seal fails, coolant escapes at the weep hole. When the bearing fails, you hear a growl and the fan belt may throw. When the impeller erodes, the engine runs hot even though the radiator is full.
How to specify the pump
- Engine serial and arrangement
- Belt-driven or gear-driven
- Pulley bolt pattern, if you are keeping the old pulley
- Whether the thermostat and hoses should be changed at the same time
Flush contaminated coolant before the new pump goes on. Oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil, is a separate fault. A pump will not fix a cracked oil cooler.
We can quote the pump against the serial so the inlet and the impeller match the engine you actually have.
